At The Tone.
The definitive audio-visual history of a radio
giant.
"Hidden
among the Maryland farms about 20 miles north of
Washington, DC, is a radio station that is on the air
24 hours a day — with some of the world's
dullest-sounding programs. Yet to a lot of people all
over the world, these monotonous sounds are more
interesting than Jack Benny."
It may be the
world's most popular radio station, and it's certainly
the longest-running: it predates Pittsburgh's
legendary KDKA and remains on the air to this day. It
has appeared everywhere from the Superman TV series to
the pages of Esquire and the New Yorker. Yet the saga
of NIST Radio Station WWV has never been told to the
fullest -- until now.
Obscure-Disk
is proud to present the first audio-visual
retrospective of this remarkable station. Produced in
cooperation with the National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST), At The Tone features:
- a 16-page,
full-color illustrated booklet;
- an 80-minute CD
with 50 distinct audio tracks spanning five
decades; and
- extensive
commentary covering the station's history from
1920 to the present day.
Significant
production and research commitments have frequently
delayed the official release of this set.
However, Obscure-Disk has decided that there's no time
like the present. We're offering a rotating
selection of downloads from At The Tone. A full
version, featuring graphics, liner notes, and an
expanded audio program, will soon come to light, but
we're unable to set a definitive date. To join

MP3 selection will
change each month, so please check back.
